About “Knee high by the 4th of July”

Both of my parents were born and raised in the Midwest. My mother grew up on a farm till college. And they both have great stories about their past on the farms. Such a homey feeling to know where your livestock and corn is your home. They had this saying on the farm.

“Knee high by the 4th of July”

Meaning if the corn was not knee high by then, the corn was not growing correctly.

Morning mist on the soon to be warm Iowa corn fields. With a stocky Midwestern built body, looking over corn fields of corn which all will all be eaten.

Drawing at the St. Augustine Art Association

Blog21

Every Monday is Figure Drawing at the St. Augustine Art Association. Located at 22 Marine Street, downtown. Drawing sessions start at 7:30PM to 10:00PM. Ten dollars for three hours, eight dollars for two hours and five dollars for students.
While I was there tonight, I notice how smooth and comforting I felt with Bach in the background. And nothing but the normal miracle of a human body, ready to draw. A place where forms become feelings. Shapes are beyond bodies in this working environment, one can have a scene of realization.

Tonight with the drawings below I was only using a 2′ bar of charcoal. With the shapes I started making I was just enjoying  myself too much to even use a pencil. I had about twenty-five drawings toward the end of the night.

“Our 5,000 square foot gallery serves as the community’s premier art center, housing an impressive collection of Lost Colony art and providing a gathering place for art workshops, lectures, children’s programs, art camp, concerts, art walks and special events. Twice a year, volunteers stage the St. Augustine Art Association Art & Craft Festivals, attracting thousands from across the country to the area’s event field. We invite you to join this vibrant arts group and encourage you to visit the downtown gallery where you’ll experience the energy, artistry and beauty of St. Augustine. “

Yet Another Triptych

After spending almost a week or more on my nude. I wanted a change. The photos here are close ups of a new and yet another triptych I’m doing.

Two of the canvases measure 30×40 placed at the end. The middle canvas measured 30×30

Unclad.

Unclad.
My shoulders.
Energy gets delivered from these two rocky points.
It measures as a shape of a triangle.
With the third point, tip acting as a nail under a hammer.
Waits for a soft part in my heart.
As wood moistens, bares expression
I melt. Wax encumbers my gifts.
Short lived butterfly lives.
Blown like bubbles in my face.
Not able to hold a facial for a glint.
Indefinable in a dictionary.

Every spoken word, spoken.
If death is near, each utter is incalculable.
My mouth, my best friend who tucks me in.
Who talks with reasoning outside my own vivaciousness.
Animated thousands of eras beyond before.
Listen to what I have to say, death is coming.
Coming.

An electrical machine of the oldest type.
Unseen lighting, unused power.
Never gets tired on a run.
Call me, call upon me. BAM
I don’t believe I have seen you like this.
Where hands are hearts.
Sensitivity is conception.
Where moving is fruitless.
In Wats , home.
Unclad clouds. Unclad Home.

But if you want to be inspired with your ears, eyes, heart. Let that happen here. Helps you widen that missing something. That love for the world again. To see your fellow neighbor express themselves, in this world that just feels too damn big.

The Library Alley returned with barbecue and beer for sale sponsored by Munroe Smokehouse.
Richard Allen’s Henna Tattoos will returned.

Original Art broadens the way you look at life! It is personal. It is meant to be enjoyed and can be uplifting if you let it! Forget the ‘experts’, let yourself go and simply look to your inner self for your own reaction. Your own neighbors worked hard to create what you can experience this Wednesday and own! My favorite phrase is ‘I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like’. We guarantee you will like something/someone here.”-Gray Solomon

Gray Solomon

Gray Solomon I would just like to say thank you for making Jacksonville that much more.
